Dumont Hardware Owner Closing Up Shop Reflects On 78 Years Of Business
Bill Salisbury was just a kid when he began working at Dumont Hardware.
His father, Harry, opened the store in 1946, and when he turned 12 , Salisbury would come in on weekends to help clean the place.
As he wiped down the windows and swept the floors, Salisbury would listen in on the conversations between the electricians, plumbers, and painters who came for supplies.
Over the years, Salisbury gleaned enough insight to fix just about anything, and by 19, he was working at the 33 Dumont Ave. store full-time, in lieu of earning a degree at the Parsons School of Design.

Fiery Deaths Prompt Recall For Millions Of Dehumidifiers: Cpsc
After multiple deaths, 450 fires, 2,000 incidents of overheating, and $19 million in property damage – millions of dehumidifiers are being recalled, according to a release by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Aug. 16, 2023.
The dehumidifiers were manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances, of China, and were sold under major brand names: Danby, De’Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, GE, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima, the CPSC explained.

Two people have been arrested in connection with a pair of stabbings in a Home Depot parking lot over the weekend in Central Jersey, authorities said.
James Romer, 18, and a 17-year-old boy were charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses, according to South Brunswick police.
On Saturday, Oct. 8, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the South Brunswick Police Department received a call from a man seeking medical assistance at the Home Depot, located at 4095 Route 1.

Man Was Paid To Steal More Than $6K In Wiring From Warren County Home Depot, Prosecutor Says
An Essex County man admitted to being paid $500 to shoplift more than $6,000 worth of electrical wiring from a Warren County Home Depot store, authorities said.
Ronald McKenzie, of Quaback Avenue in Irvington, is accused of shoplifting spools of electrical wiring from Home Depot in Mansfield Township during two incidents in July 2022, Warren County Prosecutor James L. Pfeiffer said in a release with local officials on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The amount shoplifted totals approximately $6,200, Pfeiffer said.

UPDATE: A Riverdale police officer was justified in shooting a fleeing suspect who slammed a vehicle into his patrol car, pinning him, following a pursuit that ended in Passaic County, a grand jury has found.
Officer Andrew Duffy had tried to stop Michael Rivera, 32, of Newark, who "jumped into a vehicle and started it" following a shoplifting at the Home Depot on northbound Route 23 the morning of Jan. 23, 2020, Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said Tuesday.
Duffy tried but couldn't get the keys out of the ignition, then fell back as the Acura SUV sped off, he said.
