Two Kearny residents were arrested and charged on Monday, Dec. 2 after a moped operator was seriously injured in a crash on Super Bowl Sunday authorities said. On Sunday, Feb. 11, a moped operator was struck by a cargo van in the area of Harrison Avenue and Bergen Avenue in Kearny, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. A 22-year-old Connecticut man is facing multiple assault charges following a crash that seriously injured two passengers in New Jersey last year. Daniel Leal Jr., of Meriden, CT, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 2, in connection to a crash that happened in Kearny in October 2021, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced. Two people were seriously injured and two were moderately hurt in a Kearny crash Tuesday morning, authorities said. A 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer struck a disabled tractor trailer just after 4 a.m. near Route 7 and Harrison Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The 21-year-old driver, a Garfield man, and a second rear passenger, a 20-year-old male, are listed in stable condition.
