Murderer Used Microwave, Mop Bucket To Beat Inmate In NJ Jail: Prosecutors
A man already imprisoned for murder was sentenced to an additional 20 years for a brutal beating of an inmate in the Essex County Jail, prosecutors announced on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
In Sept. 2019, Darryl Watson and six inmates beat Jayshawn Boyd, a 22-year-old Newark resident with a microwave, water cooler, and an industrial mop bucket, leaving him with permanent brain damage, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II said.

Ex-Con Dealing Heroin, Cocaine Gets 70 Years For Headshot Killing In Newark
A 28-year-old Newark man was sentenced to 70 years in state prison for a 2019 murder, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II announced.
In Feb. 2019, while dealing cocaine and heroin near a Newark public housing complex, Watson got a gun, walked toward Fred Sims, a 29-year-old Newark resident, and shot him in the head, Stephens said.
He then stood over Sims' body and shot him 10 more times before fleeing the scene.
In Dec. 2022, Watson was convicted of 10 counts, including murder and multiple weapons charges, after a jury deliberated for an hour, Stephens said.&nbs…
