Knife-Wielding Man Shot By Newark Police: Prosecutors
A 22-year old Newark man was shot by police on the morning of Thursday, Dec. 28 after he threatened them with a knife, police said. Quadir Harvey suffered non-life threatening injuries in the shooting, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura said. A 14-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger who were caught after crashing a stolen SUV during a pursuit from Route 3 to Route 21 were carrying key fobs from vehicles swiped as far south as the Jersey Shore, Clifton police said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office arrested 61 defendants in a month-long warrant sweep, authorities announced Monday. Three juveniles wanted for violent crimes were among those seized in "Operation Clean Sweep." Hillside, Newark Men Sentenced On Federal Drug And Weapons Charges
Two men have been sentenced after they were seen selling drugs from a Newark street corner two years ago and found in possession of multiple weapons, the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey said. Jesse Tullies, 54, of Hillside, received a sentence of nearly 20 years on drugs and weapons offenses. Newark resident Eugene Williams was sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison.
