: Clifton Dumpster Diver Says He Was Trapped For 3 Days
A 60-year-old Clifton man gave new meaning to dumpster diving when he was trapped in a trash bin for what he said was nearly three days before someone heard his cries for help. Firefighters used a Stokes basket to bring the man to safety at the Richfield Village Apartments off Clifton Avenue around 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16. New Jersey State Police bear no responsibility for the death of a diabetic Paterson driver who had a medical episode in the back of their cruiser following a traffic stop outside their barracks, a state grand jury has found. The troopers had handcuffed Sergio Rodriguez, 51, and led him to their marked SUV after finding heroin in his car during a stop outside their substation on Minnisink Road, just off Route 80 in Totowa, on June 27, 2020. Route 208 Motorist Alerts Responders To Fair Lawn House Fire
A motorist driving on Route 208 alerted responders to a house fire in Fair Lawn, authorities said. Occupants of the Eberlin Drive home apparently weren't aware of the fire that broke out in the chimney area of the roof of their two-story, wood-frame home shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13. Vehicles Towed In Multi-Vehicle Crash In Ridgewood
A vehicle barreled across a Ridgewood lawn and hit a house in a multi-vehicle collision Thursday. No one required medical treatment following the crash on Northern Parkway between Van Buren Avenue and Racetrack Road around 3:30 p.m. A Toyota Camry was parked in the driveway when it was struck by a Scion xB that also took down a basketball hoop after hitting a Chevy Equinox. Elementary School Fire In Passaic County Quickly Doused
No injuries were reported in a pre-dawn classroom fire Tuesday at the Haskell Elementary School. No children were in the building when the blaze broke out in a classroom at the Ringwood Avenue school shortly before 7 a.m. and was quickly extinguished, responders said. It caused a significant amount of smoke damage in the building, they said. A cause wasn't immediately disclosed. Mutual aid responders included firefighters from Ringwood, Pompton Lakes, Bloomingdale and Oakland, as well as local police and EMS. Man Takes Fatal Leap From NJ Turnpike: Police
A 33-year-old man leapt to his death from a New Jersey Turnpike overpass in Newark Monday morning, authorities said. Alain Lopez-Dorado, of Union, jumped off of the Interchange 14 overpass around 8:40 a.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Brandi Slota said. He apparently landed on Delancy Street, developing reports say. Lopez-Dorado was transported by EMS to the University Hospital where he died, Slota said. The investigation is active and ongoing.

First Responders Called To Drowning On Jersey Shore
Police, firefighters and EMS crews were called on a report of a drowning in Ocean County, authorities said. The discovery of a body in Barnegat Bay was reported at about 1:25 a.m. Tuesday near Anchor Drive and Barnegat Avenue in Seaside Park. No other details were immediately available. Brick Township Fire Destroys Waterfront Homes
Firefighters battled a raging blaze in Brick Township resulting in injuries and destruction to multiple waterfront homes Monday afternoon. The fire broke out at 31 Bay Way in the Bay Harbor section of the township around 3:30 p.m., bring crews from across the Jersey Shore to the scene. Wind caused flames to spread to the home next door. Man Stabbed With Machete During Argument In Kearny Walmart
A 43-year-old man was hospitalized after being assaulted with a machete inside of a Kearny Walmart Friday, police said. Police responding to 911 calls found the man inside the store with a deep cut in the back of his head around 10:30 a.m., Kearny police said. The victim was involved in an argument with another man, who then struck him in the head with a machete. The suspect fled the store before police arrived. Dog Attack Sends 2 To Hospital In South Brunswick
Two people were hospitalized after being attacked by a family dog in South Brunswick on Tuesday, police said. A man in his 50s and woman in her 60s were bitten by the family dog, a pitbull, at a house on the 100 block of New Road, local police said. The victims were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, authorities said. Their conditions were not known as of Wednesday morning. Responders included local police, EMS and animal control officers.

Scooter Rider Critically Injured In Passaic Crash
An electric scooter rider was clinging to life Tuesday morning after being struck in Passaic, responders said. Witnesses said the late-30s victim ran a red light and was struck by a minivan at the intersection of President and Parker Streets shortly after 10:30 a.m. He was unconscious when taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, responders said. The driver, meanwhile, remained at the scene and cooperated with police, who notified the Passaic County prosecutor's fatal accident team. City firefighters and EMS also responded.

Take-In: SUV Crashes Through Front Of Oakland Restaurant
An SUV did substantial damage when it plowed through the front of a Chinese restaurant in Oakland late Saturday morning. There was no immediate word on injuries after the Ford Explorer crashed into Oakland Chinese in a Ramapo Valley Road shopping center off Yawpo Avenue near Route 287.
