Out-Of-Town Driver Busted With 'Shrooms, Acid, Pot, More, Elmwood Park PD Says
Elmwood Park police busted a repeat offender with mushrooms, LSD, pot and prescription pills, authorities said.
Brandon J. Soto, 25, of East Orange blew a stop sign off the ramp from eastbound Route 46 onto Stefanic Avenue and was pulled over by members of the Street Crimes Unit, Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno said.
The officers had followed Soto’s 2008 Acura TL from the nearby Red Carpet Inn, the chief said.
Their suspicions aroused, they called for a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, which lead them to a search that turned up a trove of drugs.

Four people have been charged, with one currently at large, in a series of car thefts and burglaries across North Jersey last summer, police announced Thursday, March 21.
It all began on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 2:27 a.m., when Fairfield police responded to a crash at Route 280, the department said.
The occupants of the vehicle had fled the scene prior to state troopers arriving on scene, police said. An investigation revealed the vehicle had just been stolen from a residence on Hollywood Avenue, police said. Personal belongings were also stolen from the residence, police said.

Wind gusts nearing 50 miles per hour left thousands of New Jersey residents without power Monday, March 11.
According to the National Weather Service, winds are expected to die down in the evening with a wind advisory in effect until 11 p.m.

Ten people were arrested on outstanding warrants in the city, ranging from aggravated assault to being in possession of a handgun, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
Brenda Velasquez, a 46-year-old Kearney resident, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 7 after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of aggravated assault and weapon possession following an altercation with a woman in January, Fragé said.

NJ Officer Who Caused 22 Fractures In 9-Year-Old Son's Body Convicted: Prosecutor
A 53-year-old East Orange police officer faces up to 80 years in prison after being convicted of assaulting his 9-year-old son in 2018 on Friday, March 1, authorities said.
In February 2018, Devin Higgs, a West Orange resident, brought his son to the hospital for injuries that Higgs said were from a fall, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said.
The child had suffered 22 fractures on his ribs and a fractured scapula bone, along with bruises, scars and marks on his body, a sign of child abuse, Stephens said.

SUV Crashes Into State Police Car On Route 280: Njsp
An SUV crashed into a state police vehicle, causing it to hit another trooper car on Route 280 in Essex County on Saturday, March 2.
That evening, troopers were investigating another car crash on Route 280 at Exit in East Orange in the left lane, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Two unoccupied marked trooper vehicles were parked in the left lane behind the crash, with their emergency lights activated, Lebron said.
