Elizabeth Man Arrested In Deadly New Year's Eve Stabbing
An Elizabeth man has been charged in a deadly New Year's Eve stabbing, authorities announced. Edwin Rivera, 48, stabbed Jose Burgos, 56, on the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue around 9 p.m. Dec. 31, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said. A witness drove Burgos to Trinitas Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Colleen Ruppert, who is prosecuting the case. 30-Year-Old Man Dead, Another Injured In Elizabeth Shooting
A 30-year-old man died and another victim was injured in an overnight shooting in Elizabeth. Police responding to the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue found Eliezer Martinez, Jr. and another man with gunshot wounds around 1:30 a.m., Acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca and Police Director Earl Graves said. A 43-year-old Newark man has been charged with causing a deadly crash earlier this week on the Garden State Parkway then trying to cover up his role in it, authorities said. Ronaldo Godwin was heading southbound behind the wheel of a Range Rover when he struck a Lexus SUV driven by Christopher Meikle, of East Orange, at a high rate of speed around 2:45 a.m. Feb. 15, members of the Union County Prosecutors Office said. A Cranford man was being held in the Union County Jail in connection with Sunday's double shooting on Routes 1&9, authorities said Monday. Andrew C. Johnson, 50, was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and four related weapons offenses, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V.
