A fast-moving round of thunderstorm knocked power to thousands of New Jersey residents Thursday morning, May 23.
PSEG was reporting approximately 2,000 outages in Bergen County (1,156 in New Milford, 398 in Paramus); 2,341 in Essex County (983 in Caldwell, 448 in West Caldwell); 1,230 in Gloucester County (1,206 in Woodbury City).
JCP&L was reporting approximately 1,300 in Franklin Township, where a downed tree closed Route 57.

Pair Of Lucky NJ Lottery Players Split $1.3M Jackpot
A pair of New Jersey Lottery players split the $1,325,988 jackpot from Saturday's, April 30 drawing.
The retailers will receive a bonus check for $2,000 for each winning ticket sold.
Those tickets were sold at:
Essex County: Shoppers Express, 155 Roseland Ave., ATT Business Center, Caldwell; and,
Somerset County: Shoprite #470 Branchburg, 3166 Route 22, Somerville.

Feds: NJ Postal Carrier, Cronies Conspire To Convert Stolen Credit And Economic Stimulus Cards
A Union County postal carrier stole credit and economic stimulus cards from the mail that he and three accomplices converted into cash and purchases, said federal authorities who arrested them Tuesday.
Kyle Williams, 35, was working for the U.S. Postal Service when he swiped the cards from July 2019 to August 2020 and shared them with his fellow Vauxhall defendants, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.
Jarid Brooks, 27, Justin Brooks, 21, Kyjuan Hutchins, 21, and Williams activated the stolen credit cards and then used them to buy gift cards and electronics, among other items, Carpenito said…
NJ Coronavirus Cases Surge To 29,895, Murphy Orders Flags At Half-Mast For 646 Fatalities
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy reported 113 more coronavirus-related deaths and 4,372 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 29,895 Friday.
The governor ordered flags lowered to half-staff in order to honor the 646 residents killed by the virus, including Paterson-born jazz great Bucky Pizzarelli, Teaneck humanitarian Janice Preschel and Caldwell middle school principal James Brown.
"This is a war," said Murphy, emphasizing the importance of social distancing. "Wars like this are not won in one day one month or not even a few months."

4-Alarm Fire Rips Through Bloomfield's Downtown
A four-alarm fire tore through a commercial building in Bloomfield Tuesday morning.
The blaze broke out at 55 Washington St. -- which is listed online as a Heavenly Bites Hot Dogs -- although authorities did not immediately know the cause or exact location of the fire.
Local tenants said the fire started in the basement of the building and impacted a nearby florist and barber shop.
The cause was not immediately known and no injuries were reported, police said.
