Baby Rescued In Jersey City Fire That Displaced 23: Authorities A baby was rescued in harrowing conditions as firefighters battled a heavy fire in Jersey City on Friday, Dec. 6., authorities said. Firefighters responded to 322 Princeton Ave. and observed heavy fire and smoke conditions throughout the first floor, with the fire spreading to the second floor, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. Fire Engulfs Commercial Building In Summit: Authorities A fire tore through a commercial building in Summit on the evening of Monday, Dec. 2, authorities said. At 7:10 p.m., the Summit Fire Department responded to a fire at 789 Springfield Ave., which houses several businesses, a spokesperson for the city said. On arrival, crews found the fire in the attic space of the building and extinguished it, authorities said. Crews determined the fire was caused by a malfunctioning exterior light fixture, authorities said. Damage was mostly contained to the outside of the building and no injuries reported, authorities said.

Pre-Dawn Fire Ravages Paterson Building Flames blew through the roof in an overnight fire that destroyed a vacant Paterson mixed-use building. Responders didn't find anyone in the Mercer Street location at Keen Street after the blaze broke out on the second floor around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, authorities said. Firefighters were quickly pulled from inside the wood-frame building for safety reasons. Local streets were closed as they continued to douse stubborn pockets of flame past daybreak. Bayonne Fire Leaves 19 Homeless, No Injuries Reported Firefighters worked in frigid conditions Thursday to contain a blaze that tore through the top floor of a three-story building in Bayonne, Chief Keith Weaver said in a statement.  Firefighters arrived at 247 Broadway around 1:24 p.m. and saw flames pouring from the top windows of the building. Working from outside the structure, firefighters brought the two-alarm blaze under control in about 40 minutes.  An adjacent building sustained water damage but the fire itself was kept to 247 Broadway, Weaver said.
