The victim, a 68-year-old Bloomfield resident, was parked in a driveway of a Windemere Road home when a car pulled up and parked in front of the driveway.
A man got out of the car, approached her and asked her if he was in Montclair. He also asked for directions out of town, police said.
When the woman responded, the man punched her through her car's open window and tried to grab the keys out of her car's ignition. The man made off with several other keys but the ignition key remained in the ignition, police said.
The man fled in his vehicle. The woman suffered facial injuries.
He is described as black, about 30 years old and about 5'10", 160 lbs. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. His car was described as a tan sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Jamar Jones at 973-509-4705.
