Storm Downs Trees, Power Lines Across Region, Thousands Without Power

A storm packing winds that gusted up to 60 mph blasted through New Jersey Thursday night and into early Friday morning, toppling trees and leaving thousands without power.

Trees fell onto homes in Bayonne, Union, Livingston and a number of other communities as the storm kicked up late on Halloween night. A section of Mt. Pleasant Avenue in West Orange was shut down Friday morning due to storm damage.

A tornado watch was issued for Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex and Somerset counties, although there is no indication a tornado touched down.

The storm left more than 20,000 without power in New Jersey as of early Friday morning.
