Coach Juan Alvarez created an account on Donorschoose.org, where educators and students can post requests for funds for school-related needs. When Officer Manual Martinez of the Port Authority police came across the request online and reached out to Alvarez, he learned that the girls were in desperate need of new uniforms.
The Port Authority command at Newark Liberty banded together and raised $1,800 for the squad. Thanks to the donation, the old uniforms will be handed down, enabling the school to start a freshman girls soccer team in this soccer-mad section of Newark.
“We’re extremely thankful for the donation because it has enable us to include freshmen players on the team this year and we’re excited to be able to grow our team,” said Alvarez.
I want to thank Officer Martinez for reaching out and for receiving this amazing support for the girls from the Port Authority Police.”
