A 32-year-old Whippany resident was arrested and charged after she fled from police with a one-year-old in the vehicle in Florham Park, authorities announced Friday, July 17.
At 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, officers observed a gray Nissan traveling on Route 24 west in both lanes at the same time, Florham Park police said. A complaint about a vehicle with a loud exhaust led to a DWI arrest and the seizure of a loaded homemade handgun allegedly modified into an automatic weapon in Bergen County early Friday, July 17, police said.
Officers responded to Kamena and Ninth streets at approximately 4:03 a.m., after receiving a report of a vehicle idling with a loud exhaust, Deputy Chief John Pierotti said.

Dateline NBC will be airing a one-hour episode titled "Slow Burn" about the 2018 murder of the Caneiro family in Colts Neck on Friday, July 17 at 10 p.m.
Paul Caneiro, an Ocean Township resident, was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences after being convicted of murdering his brother, his sister-in-law and their two children in their Colts Neck home.
In levying the sentence, Judge Marc Lemieux called Caneiro, a "callous, heartless, brutal killer."
