Three Pets Rescued In Sussex County House Fire: Fire Department Three animals were rescued in a house fire on Newton on the early morning of Friday, Sept. 6, authorities said. At 3:55 a.m., firefighters responded to a structure fire at Hillside Terrace and learned three animals may be trapped inside the building, the Newton Volunteer Fire Department said in a release.  Firefighters searched the premises for a missing cat and a missing dog while the fire quickly spread to the front bedroom on the second floor, fire officials said. Lightning Strike Causes Fire At Turtle Back Zoo, Officials Say A North Jersey zoo erupted in flames after being struck by lightning on Wednesday, Aug. 28, officials said. West Orange responders got a call from the Turtle Back Zoo saying its Sea Turtle Recovery Building had been struck by lightning around 9:45 p.m., a spokesperson for the town said. Update: Dogs Die In New Milford House Fire Two dogs were killed in a New Milford house fire early Tuesday night, authorities said. The residents weren't home when the blaze broke out in the kitchen at the back of the Voorhis Avenue home and quickly spread shortly after 7 p.m., New Milford Police Chief Brian Clancy said. Borough firefighters were immediately joined by their colleagues from Oradell and River Edge, with New Milford Fire Chief Gerry Smithson operating as the scene commander, the chief said.
