Teen Boy Dead, Sister Rescued After Sand Collapses In On NJ Beach
An 18-year-old boy died and his 17-year-old sister was rescued when sand collapsed in on them while they were digging at a New Jersey beach Tuesday, May 17, authorities said. Levy Caverley, of Maine, was identified as the victim by Toms River police. He and his family were spending the afternoon at the beach, and he and his sister were digging a hole near the Seaview Road entrance on the barrier island when it collapsed in around 4:10 p.m., local police said. Monday afternoon was just another work day for South Seaside Park guard Keith Pinto, who sat in the lifeguard chair under clear skies surrounded by his colleagues and beach goers. Seemingly out of nowhere, though, lightning struck. Jackson Motorist Indicted In DWI Death Of Toms River Man
A 55-year-old man from Jackson was indicted for vehicular homicide Wednesday in connection with a fatal car accident last fall. Douglas Thompson's charges stem from an Oct. 15, 2019, drunk driving crash that killed Thomas Marciano, 65, of Toms River, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. Marciano was stopped behind another vehicle making a left-hand turn near Route 9 and Stevens Road when his car was struck from behind by a vehicle operated by Thompson, police said.
