A car fire on a New Jersey roadway has been linked to the shooting of two Philadelphia police officers that left one dead on Thursday evening, Oct. 12, authorities said. Police in South Brunswick said only that the vehicle fire extinguished on Route 32 around 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, was connected to the shooting. The vehicle fire came nearly two hours after Philadelphia Police Officers Richard Mendez and Raul Ortiz were shot at Philadelphia Airport. One person died and two others were wounded in a Monmouth County shooting Monday night, July 3, authorities said. Asbury Park officers found three shooting victims around 10:30 p.m. at the Asbury Park Gardens apartments on Atlantic Avenue, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said.
