10 Heat-Related Incidents Hospitalize 4 During Jersey Shore Half-Marathon Ten people suffered heat-related incidents at the 50th annual Jersey Shore half-marathon in Sandy Hook over the weekend, authorities said.  Four runners were taken to the hospital from the popular race on Sunday, Oct. 1, according to a National Park Service spokeswoman.  Six other racers refused medical attention, the spokeswoman said. Sunday was a summer-like day with temps plunging near 80 degrees.

4 Clinging To Overturned Jersey Shore Sailboat Rescued By Fdny, Nypd: Coast Guard Four people clinging to an overturned sailboat were rescued overnight, the US Coast Guard said. The vessel, dubbed "Eagle," capsized off the coast of Sandy Hook sometime around 1 a.m. Sunday, July 30, when a distressed call came in, the agency said. The vessel reported they had run aground and were taking on water. A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook crew and Coast Guard Cutter Beluga (WPB-87325) crew were launched to search for the Eagle. Man Pulled From Waters Of 'Clothing Optional' Beach Dies A man died after beachgoers pulled him from the waters of a "clothing optional" destination in Monmouth County Saturday, July 29. The incident happened sometime before 12:30 p.m., at an unguarded section of Gunnison Beach in Sandy Hook, according to National Park Service spokeswoman Daphne Yun. CPR was performed, however, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the man was taken to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Yun said. No further details were provided. Gunnison Beach was recently named one of the best secret beaches in America.

5 Rescued From NJ Beach Five people were rescued from the waters of a New Jersey beach on Saturday night. Two people were hospitalized and three refused treatment after being pulled from the waters of Beach C at Sandy Hook around 5:30 p.m., NJ Advance Media reports. Lifeguards are done working for the season and no swimming is allowed, officials said. Sea Bright Fire and Rescue, Sea Bright Ocean Rescue and Sandy Hook lifeguards responded to the scene. The condition of those hospitalized was not known.
