Retired Nun Of 67 Years Dies In Parkway Crash
The 88-year-old driver killed in a weekend crash on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County was identified as a retired nun of 67 years. Sister Joan Eileen Butler, 88, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Saturday, Dec. 10, at Bay Shore Medical Center, Holmdel, following the crash. Sister Joan Eileen was born in Jersey City. She entered the Sisters of Charity on Sept. 6, 1955, according to her obituary. Sister Joan Eileen was an educator and served in health ministry in New Jersey and Massachusetts. A 13-year-old middle school student was struck and killed by a car while riding his bike in Mercer County Friday, Sept. 9, authorities said. The Melvin H. Kreps Middle School student was found unconscious with severe trauma to the body and head around 9 p.m. at the intersection of West Ward and Mercer streets in Hightstown, local police said. Monmouth County recorded a record number of traffic deaths in July, authorities said. Authorities have identified the two people killed in the double-decker Megabus overturn on the NJ Turnpike Tuesday, Aug. 9, authorities said. Up to two people died in a crash involving a car and a firetruck in South Jersey Wednesday morning, according to developing reports. The crash between a Lawnside Fire Co. truck occurred around 9:55 a.m. at Warwick Road and North White Horse Pike in Magnolia, initial reports said.
