Train Operator Dead, 23 Passengers Hurt In NJ Transit Crash With Tree
A train operator was killed and multiple others hurt after a tree fell on an NJ Transit train Monday morning, Oct. 14 in Burlington County. The incident happened around 6 a.m. on the River LINE train, which had been heading north from Trenton when it struck a tree south of the Roebling Station in Mansfield Township, an NJ Transit spokesperson said. A man died when he was struck by a New Jersey Transit train in Red Bank, officials said. The pedestrian was hit by a southbound North Jersey Coast Line train No. 3241 at the Monmouth Street crossing at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, an NJ Transit spokesperson said. Officials have identified the man struck and killed by an NJ Transit train on Saturday, Sept. 13 in Monmouth County. Anthony DePalma, 39, of Atlantic Highlands, was struck at the Monmouth Street crossing in Red Bank and involved North Jersey Coast Line train 7240, according to an NJ Transit spokesperson. NJ Transit is continuing to tweak its ticket policy. NJ Transit announced that refunds will be made available for unused one-way tickets purchased prior to Saturday, June 1. A man was hospitalized after he was struck by a commuter train Sunday night in Paterson. The Main Line #1732 train had left Suffern at 9:07 p.m. and was due to arrive in Hoboken at 10:19 p.m. when it struck the man just west of the Paterson train station shortly before 10 p.m., NJ Transit’s Lisa Torbic said.
