New Milford PD: Officers Capture Motorcycle Thieves
New Milford police nabbed a pair of thieves who'd just loaded a motorcycle into a van before dawn Friday and took off, authorities said. Officer Michael Lafrano stopped the Perth Amboy pair on River Road and Faller Drive after a caller at a Columbia Street apartment complex alerted police around 3:30 a.m., Detective Lt. Kevin Van Saders said. The van, it turned out, had a license plate stolen from a vehicle parked in the same complex, the lieutenant said. The stolen motorcycle was in the back, he said. Sgt. Positive coronavirus cases prompted two Central Jersey districts to close schools Thursday. Authorities: Edison Man, 42, Charged In Fatal Shooting
A 42-year-old man from Edison has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Perth Amboy, authorities said. Robert Hagens, 42, was charged on Tuesday with the murder of Vidal Carrasquillo-Vasquez, 41, of Perth Amboy, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Perth Amboy Police Chief Roman McKeon. Hagens also was charged with unlawfully possessing a weapon, they said. Hagens previously had been arrested on Aug. 24 on a charge of conspiracy to possess cocaine, they said. First responders from Middlesex County rescued a worker who fell into a 20-foot-deep trench on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The emergency occurred about 12:30 p.m. at the Buckeye Raritan Bay Terminal at 577 Smith St. in Perth Amboy, where the contractor was repairing a sewer. The victim suffered trauma, an arm injury and possibly fractured ribs, according to initial unconfirmed reports. Driver Fatally Shot, Crashes In Perth Amboy
A 41-year-old man was shot and killed while behind the wheel of a car over the weekend in Perth Amboy, authorities said. Officers responding to reports of a car crash found Vidal Carrasquillo-Vasquez with multiple gunshot wounds in the driver's seat at the intersection of Hall Avenue and High Street around 11:35 p.m. Sunday, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. A 33-year-old man with a knife sexually assaulted a woman he did not know near her home in Perth Amboy, authorities said. Ricardo Powell, also of Perth Amboy, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal restraint and weapons offenses, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Perth Amboy Police Chief Roman McKeon said in a joint statement.
