No New Alligator Sightings: Central Jersey Park Remains Closed
A Middlesex County park will remain closed over the Labor Day Weekend due to repeated sightings of a small alligator, authorities said. The 3 or 4-foot gator was first spotted Wednesday, Aug. 23 in Victor Crowell Park, submerged in the waters of Lake Creighton, commonly known as the Duck Pond, and Ambrose Brook in Middlesex Borough. Police shot at the alligator on Saturday, Aug. 26, and it was spotted by police again on Wednesday, Aug. 30. That was the last sighting, police said. Rabid Fox Wreaks 'Double Trouble' At NJ State Park
New Jersey officials tried to remove a potentially rabid fox that had unspecified encounters with visitors at Double Trouble State Park. The state park remained closed to the public for a second day on Tuesday, Aug. 30. The fox was behaving erratically, the state Department of Environmental Protection said. 2 NJ Parks Closing 'Until Further Notice'
Two New Jersey State Parks will be closing indefinitely come Monday, officials said. Voorhees State Park in Hunterdon County and Fort Mott State Park in Salem County will close on Monday so park staff can be used at other nearby parks that are seeing an uptick in visitors, the New Jersey State Park Service said. State Park officials said only that the two would be closed "until further notice."
