Feds: Ponzi Schemer Funded House, Car, More With $6.8M From Investors In NJ, Elsewhere
New Jersey residents were among more than two dozen victims who lost a combined $6.8 million to a North Carolina con man running a Ponzi scheme, federal authorities charged.
David Schamens, 64, of Greensboro, NC, promised annual return rates of 12% to 30% when he began soliciting investments in 2014 in Secaucus-based TradeStream Analytics LTD, as well as in other entities with names such as TD Trading LLC, TFG Trading LLC, and Tradedesk Financial Group Inc., U.S. Attorney Philip R. Metal Found In These Drinks Forces FDA Recall In CT, NY, NJ, PA
Metal fragments and washers found in Minute Maid and Coca-Cola products have forced the US Food and Drug Administration to issue a voluntary recall in eight states.
The products were distributed in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Maine and New Jersey, according to the FDA.

East Coast Ring Stole High-End GPS Devices From Boatyards In NJ, Elsewhere, State Police Charge
An ex-con with a previous history of boat-related thefts was part of a Miami-based ring that stole GPS systems from boatyards along the East Coast, including more than $300,000 worth in New Jersey, authorities said.
Mizael Alfonso, 47, and co-defendant Marie Frometa Rodriguez, 41, were captured at a motel in Plymouth, MA, New Jersey State Police said.
A third defendant, Manuel Barbosa Mendiluza, 58, was arrested by Miami police, while a fourth, Ciro Perez Martinez, 29, was nabbed by the Miami-Dade Marine Theft Task Force.
All were extradited to New Jersey, NJ State Police said.

A pedestrian who suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was struck by a commuter bus in Essex County reportedly has received a $2 million settlement.
Kiliek Anthony, now 31, was knocked an estimated 15 feet when he was struck by a New Jersey Transit bus as he crossed Chancellor Avenue in Irvington on Dec. 1, 2015 around 6 a.m., police reports show.
