A car went up in flames on the New Jersey Turnpike Thursday afternoon, causing a shutdown of one lane, state police said. HERO: A passing tow truck driver helped a motorist from his burning car on the New Jersey Turnpike seconds before it was engulfed in flames. Nick's Towing Service driver John Tashian of Paramus was returning from a job in Newark when he saw the burning vehicle just off the road in Kearny at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, said his boss, Nicholas F. A 54-year-old motorist from Monmouth County was killed when his car rear-ended a tractor-trailer, authorities said. The crash occurred at 7:07 p.m. Thursday, off the New Jersey Turnpike in Woodbridge Township, according to State Police. Troopers were called around 4:35 a.m. to the turnpike's southbound side at milepost 105.8 in Newark, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez said. The crash was reported at 9:29 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike southbound near mile-marker 74.8 in South Brunswick Township, according to a New Jersey State Police spokeswoman said. A 48-year-old Staten Island man was found dead in his car on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said. Troopers found Gerald D'Aniello unresponsive in his black sedan parked on the ramp of interchange 7A on the shoulder in Robbinsville around 10:30 Friday, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said.
