Driver, 56, Killed When SUV Crashes In Central Jersey: Police
A 56-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Central Jersey, authorities said. The man was driving a 2001 Ford Escape west on Prospect Plains Road in Monroe at 2:11 am. Wednesday, Sept 28 when the crash occurred, police said. His vehicle veered off the road before striking a curb and a fire hydrant after flipping over, Monroe Township police said. The driver was then ejected from the vehicle, they said. The driver's name had not been released pending notification of next of kin. A heart-stopping video posted by a Middlesex County police department shows an officer running out of his car to rescue a driver from a burning vehicle in a Thanksgiving Day crash. The 3-minute and 40-second dashcam tape shows Monroe Township officer Douglas Perrone jumping out of his vehicle to Pergola Avenue near Namsan Drive around 8:40 p.m., and running straight to the fully-engulfed Ford Fusion -- the driver trapped inside. Monroe PD: Driver, 72, Who Struck NJ DOT Lawnmower Dies
A 72-year-old man from Monroe Township was killed Wednesday after his car left the roadway and struck a tractor mowing in the median, authorities said. Marc A. Mandelkorn was driving west on Route 33 near its intersection with Bentley Road in Monroe when the collision occurred about 1:15 p.m., Monroe police said in a statement. His vehicle crossed into the median, leaving the roadway for an undetermined reason, police said.
