Jersey Shore Man Stole $200K From Multiple Victims: Prosecutor
A 36-year-old Lakehurst man has admitted to stealing more than $200,00 from 10 victims, authorities said. Robert Cohan pleaded guilty on Monday, Aug. 28, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. He agreed to pay restitution totaling $220000, Billhimer said. An investigation by the Toms River Township Police Department revealed that between February 2022 and May 2022, Cohan – oftentimes posing as a relative of someone who owns a legitimate contracting business — targeted residents of the Gardens of Pleasant Plains, an age-restricted community in Toms River. …

Lightning Strike Fire Engulfs Jersey Shore Home
UPDATE: A lightning strike Wednesday ignited a fire that destroyed a Jersey Shore home and killed several pets. Two cats, a bird and several reptiles died in the Beckerville Road fire, which broke out in the 1½-story ranch house shortly before 3 p.m., Manchester Township police said. Responders included firefighters from Whiting, Manchester, Ridgeway, Forked River, Lakehurst, Cassville and Whitesville, as well as Manchester Township EMS and police. No injuries were reported. An overnight fire Tuesday destroyed an Ocean County home, responders said. The Red Cross was assisting seven adults who reportedly were displaced by the blaze, which broke out on Center Street in Lakehurst shortly before 3 a.m. Flames shot through the roof of the home and caused minor damage to nearby homes. Police are looking for an ATV driver who fled them near Lakehurst Elementary School while children were being dismissed, authorities said. The incident happened about 2:45 p.m. Monday, Lakehurst police said on Facebook.
