A police detective was hospitalized after rescuing a dog from a house fire in Mercer County, authorities said. Officers responding to 109 Browning Ave. in Ewing saw smoke billowing from the home around 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, the Ewing Police Department said. Two motorists were plucked from the rooftops of their cars, which were stranded in floodwaters from Tropical Storm Ida in Mercer County, authorities said. Three Mercer County police officers were set on survival, clinging to trees for hours after being carried away by raging Ida floodwaters Wednesday night. Two Hamilton police officers rescued a sleeping family from their burning apartment, authorities said.
