New Milford PD: Hackensack Ex-Con Made Dozens Of Threatening Calls To Police, Local School
An ex-con with a history of making threats used racial slurs in alarming calls to a New Milford school, followed by 26 similar calls to borough police, authorities charged.
The first call by Sean Michael Persons, 39, of Hackensack last week was “threatening, offensive and had racial rhetoric,” alarming school administrators, Police Capt. Kevin Van Saders said.

Fugitive Wanted For Setting Humc Co-Worker On Fire Found Dead Of Suicide
UPDATE: A contract nurse who fled after authorities said he set a 54-year-old colleague at Hackensack University Medical Center on fire was found dead of suicide in South Jersey, authorities said.
The body of Nicholas Pagano, 31, of West Deptford was found in a wooded area of Waterford Township, in Camden County, a two-hour drive of more than 100 miles from Hackensack, early Tuesday, Feb. 8, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
He'd shot himself once in the chest, apparently with a gun that had been stolen from his brother's home, law enforcement sources said.

Hackensack Man Struck, Killed In Hit-Run, Driver Found, Charged
A Hackensack man was struck and killed Friday night by a hit-and-run driver from Paterson, said authorities who made an arrest soon after.
James Dixon, 25, was struck near the intersection of River and Court streets, across from the Bergen County parking garage, shortly after 8 p.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Responders attempted CPR but he was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center soon after, he said.

Hero: Hackensack Police Officer Saves Life Of Unresponsive Baby
A year-old child had turned blue, her eyes rolling into the back of her head, when a Hackensack police officer saved her, authorities said.
The 1-year-old girl was breathing but was limp when her mother handed her to Officer Mark Carillo on Tuesday, Capt. Darrin DeWitt said.
The child remained unresponsive, so Carillo, rather than wait for an ambulance, took her and her mother to Hackensack University Medical Center himself, using his cruiser’s lights and siren, DeWitt said.
The child was treated in the emergency room and was recovering from an undisclosed illness, the captain said.
