2 Killed, 2 Critically Hurt When Car Strikes Tree On Route 1 In Edison: Prosecutor Two people were killed, and two others were critically hurt, when their vehicle struck a tree in Central Jersey, authorities said. On Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 10:17 p.m., Edison police responded to Route 1 at Jeff Street for a crash, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan.  Police found a vehicle with four occupants had struck a tree, they said. A pole was knocked down and traffic was being diverted off Route 1 onto Plainfield Avenue, an unconfirmed report said. Edison police were not immediately available for comment. Motorist Strikes Pole, Killed In Edison Crash A man was killed Monday in a single-car crash in Edison, authorities said. The victim was driving on Route 27 near Frederic Street when his car crossed the road, hit a pole and overturned, Edison police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene about 9 a.m., police said. His name has not been released by police. Route 27 remained closed in both directions as of 11:30 a.m.  An investigation of a possible cause of the crash is continuing, police said.
