The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the arrival of mysterious tar balls on beaches from Sea Bright south to Asbury Park. A man walking along Route 9 in Howell was killed after being struck by a vehicle overnight. The crash occurred at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, June 2 between Alexander Avenue and Ford Road, Howell police said. A 30-year-old Lakewood resident was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
