Wildwood Man Sexually Assaults Girl: Prosecutor
A Wildwood man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13, authorities said. Wildwood police and the special victims unit for the county prosecutor's office opened an investigation on Friday, Jan. 12 into a child sexual assault claim against 27-year-old Jose Lopez-Ortiz, Cape May County prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced. Lopez-Ortiz was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 13, and is being held at Cape May County Correctional Center. Pedestrian, 60, Killed In South Jersey Crash
A 60-year-old pedestrian from Wildwood was killed in a crash in Cape May County, authorities said. On Wednesday, May 17, at approximately 6:40 a.m., the Middle Township Police Department responded to Fulling Mill Road (Route 654) in the Rio Grande section of Middle Township for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing Fulling Mill Road and was struck by a motor vehicle that was traveling south, police said. Wildwood Mayor Peter J. Byron admitted Friday that he ducked paying taxes on $40,425 that he received for working as a salesman for a law firm, federal authorities said. Byron, 67, officially pleaded guilty to twice willfully "aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of fraudulent tax returns" to the IRS for calendar years 2017 and 2018, U.S. Attorney Philip R.
