Rescuers Save Adult, Two Kids Swimming In Ocean Grove After Sunset
Three swimmers were rescued while in the water after sunset in Ocean Grove, officials said. Rescuers were called to a swimmer in distress near the pier at the Main Avenue beach at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the ANSWER team said in a Facebook post. The report was quickly upgraded to three swimmers in distress. When emergency crews arrived, they saw the three swimmers screaming for help. Newly-released bodycam footage shows the arrest of a wrong-way DWI driver who police say nearly hit multiple people before crashing into another vehicle then landing on a boardwalk along in a Jersey Shore town. DWI Driver Traveled Down Boardwalk On Jersey Shore After Crashing Into Vehicle, Police Say
An Avon-by-the-Sea man was accused of driving while intoxicated when he crashed into a vehicle and drove onto the Belmar boardwalk, authorities said. Jason Nagy, 44, was arrested on Thursday, July 11, the Belmar Police Department said in a news release. Officers responded to a crash near the intersection of Second and Ocean avenues at around 9:16 a.m. Investigators said Nagy was driving north in the southbound lane on Ocean Avenue when he crashed into another vehicle. An important bridge for many Monmouth County drivers will be closed for several months due to repairs, officials said. The state Department of Transportation (NJDOT) said the Route 71 drawbridge over the Shark River had a mechanical failure on Friday, Mar. 1 that caused "significant damage to the machinery of the North Bridge leaf." Structural evaluation and drawbridge engineering teams said the bridge is safe for vehicles traveling between Belmar and Avon-by-the-Sea.
