Robert Hrapsky Jr. died Saturday, July 15, aged 36, his obituary says.
Born in New Brunswick, Robert was raised in Highland Park before settling in Asbury Park about 10 years ago.
In addition to being a handy mechanic, Robert was known for expressing his charismatic and spirited nature during his career in the bar and restaurant industry, which started at Uno’s and later led him to Kim Marie’s in Asbury Park.
Robert loved to travel, play and watch baseball and golf, and explore Asbury Park’s vibrant nightlife.
“He had ‘frequent’ visits to different bars where he would strike up conversations and become acquainted with different groups around him,” reads his obituary. “Robert always had dynamic stories and an energetic persona.”
Above all, however, Robert valued the special relationships he had with many of his family members and truly nurtured them.
“Robert’s love, affection, and spirit were touched by many,” his obituary says. “He will be dearly missed.”
Robert leaves behind his adoring parents, Robert and Nereida Hrapsky; brothers, Lorenzo Bowers and Michael Hrapsky; Jessica Sanchez; nephews, Lorenzo Bowers and Amar-e Bowers; grandmother, Maryanne Hrapsky; girlfriend, Emily Capolupo; his dog, Sophie; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
Meanwhile, about $42,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe launched to support Robert’s family following his unexpected passing.
“Robert Hrapsky Jr., known by many names by the many people who loved him, was a beacon of light in a world that can seem increasingly dark,” reads the campaign.
“Robert lived his life to the fullest and his zest for life was inspiring. He was a big bundle of joy, laughter, and love. Being around him brought so many people so much happiness.”
Tributes flooded social media as well:
“Robert joined us a few years ago and quickly became part of our family,” reads a touching post from Kim Marie’s pub in Asbury Park. “He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and you could talk to him on either side of the bar.”
"You’re the best uncle anyone could ask for," writes Lorenzo Bowers, who penned Robert's obituary. "Nothing will ever be the same, but I love you."
Robert’s memorial was set for Tuesday, July 25 at Gleason Funeral Home in Somerset.
“Robert was a gentle giant; he was kind, caring, and unpretentious,” the fundraiser says. “He was curious about everyone and everything. He embraced everyone he met as a friend, always seeing the best in people.”

“To say there was no one like Robert is an understatement,” campaign contributor Liza Salerno writes.
“He impacted so many lives, including mine, with his open heart and unmatched humor. He was a true companion and a lifelong friend to many. His impact will never be forgotten and I will hold him close to my heart forever.”
