South Jersey Corrections Officer Who Sexually Assaulted Girl Under 13 Sentenced: Prosecutors
A Cape May County corrections officer will spend more than a quarter-century in prison for sexually assaulting a girl younger than 13 years old, authorities said. Jonathan Perez, 35, of Woodbine, was sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 8 to 30 years in state prison, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a news release. Five people were hospitalized in a DWI simulation involving a golf cart operator by a juvenile and an officer at National Night Out in Wildwood on Tuesday, Aug. 6, authorities said. The impaired operator simulation has been running at the annual event for 20 years, Wildwood police said in a news release. A stabbing and "civil unrest" from younger people caused chaos over Memorial Day weekend in two Cape May County cities, authorities said. Large groups of teens and young adults were blamed for the nighttime incidents in Ocean City and Wildwood, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a news release on Monday, May 27.
