21-Year-Old Jumper Rescued From River Beneath NJ Bridge, Police Say
Edison police rescued a 21-year-old man who jumped off the Morris Goodkind Bridge, authorities said. The call came in shortly before 6:30 a.m. Monday, April 15 along Route 1 near the Raritan River Boat Club, Edison Deputy Chief Robert Dudash said. Police found an unoccupied car on the bridge and a man in the water, Dudash said. Two officers swam out to rescue the man, he said. The man was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he was recovering fine, Dudash said. The two officers suffered mild hypothermia and were taken to JFK Hospital for treatment. A holdup that left a victim shot dead at a Route 1 couples motel in Woodbridge led to the murder conviction of a Bronx man who federal prosecutors said planned the robbery, supplied the gun and pocketed some of the proceeds. Fort Lee police believe a vehicle that left the scene may have been responsible for a Sunday afternoon crash that ejected a motorcyclist. The 44-year-old victim from Greenwood Lake was headed north on Route 1 when a gray-colored SUV apparently caused him to lose control of his 2004 Suzuki near the Dunkin Donuts shortly before 2:30 p.m., Capt. 21 Vehicles Destroyed In Ridgefield Fire
Live wires temporarily kept firefighters from dousing flames that destroyed 21 vehicles on a lot off Broad Avenue in Ridgefield. A wire downed in Thursday night's storm ignited two vehicles in the depot, filled with hundreds of new vehicles, next to Metro Fuel on Hudson Avenue near H Mart, authorities said. Firefighters found two vehicles fully involved with live wires arcing over them, blocking initial suppression efforts. Report: Pickup Driver In Crash That Killed 5 Teaneck Family Members Gets 1 Year Probation
A man who killed a Teaneck father and his four daughters when his pickup truck veered across a Delaware highway into the path of their minivan was sentenced to a year's probation on Friday, according to a published report. Alvin Hubbard III, of Maryland, could be sentenced to 14 years in prison if he doesn't meet the requirements of his probation.
