Former Nun, 96, Killed By Car, Driver Cited In Sussex County, Police Say
A 96-year-old former nun was struck and killed by a vehicle last week in Sussex County, police said.
Aurora Marcos Travis, of Newton, died on Thursday, June 27, after being struck by a 25-year-old driver who failed to yield as she crossed Madison Street in a marked crosswalk, local police said.
The driver had been turning left from Elm Street around 11 a.m., Newton police said. Travis was taken to Newton Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, while the driver was issued a summons for failure to yield, police said.

Officers, Suspect Treated For Hypothermia After Pursuit Ends Neck-Deep In Sussex County Swamp
A 42-year-old New York man and a Sussex County police officer were hospitalized for hypothermia after the man was nabbed neck-deep in swamp water, authorities said.
Joseph M Flood, of Port Jervis, NY, had been eluding police in various jurisdictions but was spotted by police in Andover while on Anover-Mohawk Road in a Chevy Avalanche around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, local police said.
Flood continued south on Andover-Mohawk Road, but fled on food after losing control and hitting a utility pole, Andover police said.

Sussex County native and beloved father William D. VanGorden died suddenly at Newton Medical Center on Oct. 21. He was 31.
Born in Newton, VanGorden grew up in Sussex County before settling in Lords Valley, PA, his obituary says.

Police: Sussex County Man, 32, Swings Tomahawk In Public Parking Lot Assault
A Sussex County man threatened and swung a Tomahawk at a victim during two separate altercations last week, police said.
Robert Cibula, 32, of Andover Township, approached a man in the Adams Street Parking Lot in Newton while holding a knife and making threats on Dec. 29 around 8:40 p.m., local police said.
The victim ran from the area and returned a short time later only to be approached once again by Cibula, who swung at him with a Tomahawk axe and injured his hand, police said.

Police: DUI Morris County Woman, 26, Swerves Off Road, Slams Into Tree
A Morris County woman was under the influence when she swerved off the road and slammed into a tree over the weekend, authorities said.
Rebecca Dwyer, 26, was driving south on High Street near the Summit Avenue Pond in Newton around 2:45 a.m. Saturday when her 2006 Honda Civic swerved off the road and hit a tree, which deployed the vehicle’s airbag, police said.
Dwyer was transported via Atlantic Ambulance to Newton Medical Center, where she was treated for arm and hand injuries, police said.
