A pair of New Jersey men being held in a Haitian prison in deplorable and frightening conditions have been released, NorthJersey.com reports. Elizabeth residents Billy Balisage, 42, and Patrick Julney, 38, were among 30 deportees released seemingly at random on Monday, Oct. 24, the outlet said. Both had been deported by US officials for non-citizens who had committed crimes, for Balsiage that was a drug conviction and for Julney those were drug and robbery convictions, the outlet said. UPDATE: An ex-con who choked out a female dispatcher while robbing a Harrison taxicab company at knifepoint was sentenced to 9½ years without parole in federal prison. Alfuquan Turner, 46, of Newark took his chances with a jury rather than take a deal from the government after he was charged with robbing the Harrison Cab Company on Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard in Sept. 2019. An ex-con was convicted in federal court of selling cocaine and crack along the Jersey Shore, authorities said. Damion “Checks” Helmes, 42, of Cliffwood was the last of 20 defendants convicted of peddling the drug throughout Monmouth County and into Ocean County. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Trenton found Helmes guilty of various drug-dealing charges while acquitting him of two gun offenses following a two-week trial. A 35-year-old Jersey Shore man wanted for spraying Lysol in a victim's face before stabbing him in the chest and robbing him was captured by US Marshals, the service announced. Philip Gross was taken into custody with help from local police after he was spotted riding an electric scooter on Atkins Avenue in Asbury Park Tuesday, Oct. 18, the US Marshals' New York / New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force said. A 21-year-old man from Mays Landing was killed by gunfire overnight in Atlantic City, authorities said. On Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, at 1:47 a.m., Atlantic City police responded to a ShotSpotter notification on the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue. A man was rushed to the hospital after being shot near a waste management plant in Ewing early on Monday, Sept. 26, authorities said.
