NJ Detective Dies After Battle With Rare Disease: Officials
A New Jersey police department is mourning the loss of one of its detectives who died after a battle with a rare cancer. Evesham detective Jared Halpern died on Monday, Aug. 3, after his second battle with rare germ cell cancer, his department said. He was 43 years old. He is survived by his wife, Jillian Halpern, and their two children, Paige and Hunter, who were the center of his life, according to his obituary on the Bradley Funeral Home website. NJ Teen Arrested For Shooting: Police
An 18-year-old Pleasantville resident was arrested and charged after shooting a person in the city, authorities announced Tuesday, Aug. 4. At 11:33 a.m., on Tuesday, July 21, officers responded to Linden Avenue and Merion Avenue and found a person with gunshot wounds to the chest and left arm, Pleasantville police. The person was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said. Multiple Cars Catch Fire After Tree Limb Falls On Power Lines: Cherry Hill FD
A tree limb falling on power lines prompted a response from firefighters in Cherry Hill Monday, Aug. 3, authorities said. At 3:31 p.m., tree limb fell on power lines, causing the power lines to land on parked vehicles, which saw a vehicle catch ablaze and spread the fire to other cars, Cherry Hill Fire Department said. The fire unleashed plumes of smoke into the sky and caused a power outage at the Grand Apartments, firefighters said. No injuries were reported, firefighters said.

Camden Motorcyclist Killed In Route 295 Crash:

A 47-year-old Camden man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Route 295 in Gloucester County, authorities said. At 10:16 p.m. on Friday, July 31, troopers responded to a crash on Route 295 north in Logan Township after a a Suzuki motorcycle driven by Jermaine Hatcher struck a Ram pickup, Charles Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Hatcher was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, Marchan said. The driver and three passengers in the Ram sustained minor injuries, Marchan said. The crash remains under investigation, Marchan said.
