At 3:28 p.m., officers responded to Grand Avenue and Beatty Street after a pickup truck struck a vehicle at the intersection and fled the scene, Hackettstown police said. A witness followed the vehicle, which eventually pulled into the driveway of a residence on College View Drive, police said.

While speaking with the driver, later identified as Jovav Santos-Bautista, officers detected the odor of alcohol, police said.  The officer found an open, half-filled Modelo beer can in the center console, along with open and empty alcoholic beverages throughout the vehicle, police said.

During the investigation, Santos-Bautista provided law enforcement with different names and dates of birth, police said.

He was charged with assuming a false identity, hindering prosecution, driving while intoxicated, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, driving without driver’s license, possession of an open container of alcohol, and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

Santos-Bautista was then lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance, police said.
