Tappan Zee Bridge Jumper Hanging From Side Of Span Rescued By Responders
Responders rescued a jumper who was hanging off the side of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. The report of a jumper snagged near the northbound Tarrytown end of the bridge came in shortly before 10 a.m., Friday, May 27, bringing a huge contingent of emergency personnel, including the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team. The rescueWestchester County PD Rescuers brought the person to safety using a series of ropes, witnesses said. The incident was over in barely a half-hour, they said. Big Brush Fire At Bergen-Rockland Border Threatens Home
A brush fire along the Bergen/Rockland border temporarily closed the Ramapo Reservation after sending a column of smoke skyward that could be seen in Westchester. A live wire smoldering on a tree apparently ignited the blaze on Brandt Road in the Ramapo Mountains in Hillburn, bringing firefighters from both counties, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 15. HEROES: Noontime traffic rumbled across the George Washington Bridge below as a distraught 19-year-old Rockland woman sat atop the Palisades on Thursday. A short time earlier, the Thiells woman told her father that she wanted to end it all.
