NJ Police Lt. Mark Horan Takes His Own Life After 24 Years On Force
A police lieutenant who took his own life over the weekend in his New Jersey home is being remembered as a devoted dad and exemplary officer. Hamilton Police Lt. Mark Horan died Saturday, April 30 in his home. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, NJ Advance Media reports. Horan joined Hamilton's force in 1998 and assigned to the patrol division. He moved to the anti-crime unit in 2009, and a year later, was promoted to sergeant. In 2017, he was promoted again to lieutenant, serving in the anti-crime, patrol and administration divisions. Three US Navy sailors stationed on the USS George Washington died by suicide within seven days of each other this month, The Washington Post reports. A 92-year-old Edgewater man was presumed drowned after a ferry captain found his walker, wallet and other belongings on a Hudson River pier just south of the George Washington Bridge. Union Township officers responded to RTSP on Route 22 east around 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, where they found the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Police Capt.Pietro DiGena said. A man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head brought police to a North Jersey cemetery overnight, authorities said. The 54-year-old man was found lying on the ground near his car at St. Teresa Cemetery on Passaic Avenue in Summit around midnight Tuesday, March 1, department spokeswoman Amy Cairns said.
