Toms River Man Drowns In Bay
A 64-year-old Toms River man drowned in an area bay last week, authorities said. Wayne Brotsky was fighting to stay afloat in Mariner's Cove at the end of Kettle Creek before he went under and disappeared around 6:10 p.m. Aug. 19, local police said. Silverton Fire Chief Robert Sinnott was first on scene and jumped in the water. Toms River Officer Michael Hader, and Silverton Fire Company firefighters Keegan Shevlin, Rich Foster, and Dave McElwain also jumped in the water to search for Brotsky. Police ID Toms River Woman Who Died After Slamming Head-On Into Truck In Fiery Crash
A 52-year-old woman died after crashing into a truck head-on Monday in Toms River, police said. Claudine Silverstri was heading west on Route 571 in the left lane when she suddenly drifted into the right and struck a curb and guardrail near Oak Ridge Parkway around 7 a.m., a witness told police. The vehicle then veered to the left and entered the oncoming traffic lanes, where Silvestri collided head-on with a sign truck before her vehicle caught fire, police said. Bah humbug Silverton volunteer firefighters seek the public's help in locating Christmas tree thieves caught in the act on surveillance video, authorities said. "Silverton Fire Company needs your help with identifying the real life Grinches of SILVERTON," volunteer firefighters wrote on their Facebook page.
