'You're Good:' NJ State Troopers Often Gave Connected Motorists Free Pass, Comptroller Finds
The difference between getting a ticket and getting a warning from a New Jersey State Trooper could be based on who you know, according to a new report from the New Jersey Comptroller's Office. As part of its Police Accountability Project, the comptroller's office reviewed camera footage of 501 stops by state police that did not result in a ticket. In 27% of the stops, motorists presented a courtesy card, claimed to have a friend or relative in law enforcement, or flashed a law enforcement badge and then were let go, the report said.
