Schools Shelter In Place Amid Investigation Into Possibly Armed NJ Student: Cops
An investigation into a student who was believed to have been armed with a gun had some schools sheltering in place Friday, March 22, police said. The investigation began around 12:10 p.m., when officers were called to investigate a student "acting suspiciously" at a school in Perth Amboy, local police said. The student was believed to have been headed toward another school looking for another student, police said. The student was taken into custody and was found to not have been armed, police said. The shelter in place was lifted later in the day. The investigation is ongoing.

Tense Standoff Ends Safely After Military Vet Pulls Knife On Police At North Jersey Resort
A potential tragedy was avoided when Vernon Township police safely disarmed a troubled military veteran from New York who pulled a knife on them at the Crystal Springs Resort. A 6-year-old child suffered a broken leg in a three-car crash on Route 206 on Sunday, March 3, that Montgomery police said was caused by a woman driving on the shoulder. At 2:46 p.m., Montgomery police and EMS responded to the crash at Route 206 on Montgomery Road and Sycamore Lane, officers said. Oksana Semyrozum, a 43-year-old Hillsborough resident was heading southbound on 206 in a Toyota Prius, passing traffic on the shoulder, police said. Pair Beat Man Then Set His Belongings On Fire At Rutgers, Campus Police Say
A man was beaten and his belongings were set on fire near the Rutgers University campus, authorities said. Two New Brunswick men were arrested Tuesday, Feb. 27 in the 2:30 p.m. Sunday attack, according to the Rutgers University Police Department. The attack reportedly followed a verbal dispute at a New Brunswick business earlier Sunday. An MBA fellow at Rowan University has designed an app to enhance the security of students at the Glassboro campus. Siena Rampulla was a victim of an off-campus break-in in March 2022, as reported by Daily Voice. Jorge L. Navaheredia, 29, of Sicklerville, had broken into several women's homes including Rampulla's, according to Glassboro police. He was caught hiding under a kitchen sink with panties, police said. Support is on the rise for a Morris County officer who suffered a spinal injury in a fall from a tree stand, those who know him say. Mark Ehrenburg, a police sergeant in Kinnelon, was seriously injured when he fell from a tree stand while hunting in Blairstown on Friday, Nov. 24. Ehrenburg suffered from a broken spine and broken vertebrae and underwent surgery. He faces a lengthy rehab though doctors are optimistic he will walk again, his family said. A Rochelle Park Board of Education member who's running for a seat on the Township Committee was busted for DWI earlier this month, police records show. Officers responding to a call found a Toyota SUV with a green light idling in a left-turn lane on Railroad Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. Oct. 7, according to a report filed by one of them. Jorge A. Oh deer! A 13-year-old bicyclist was struck by a deer that was struck by a car in a chaotic scene in Hackettstown on Tuesday, Oct. 10. A man leapt to his death from the balcony of a building in Newark Tuesday, Sept. 5, officials said. Police responding to the intersection of Center Street and Park Place on a call of a sick or injured person found the unresponsive man around 5:25 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He had jumped from a building’s balcony across from New Jersey Performing Arts Center and pronounced dead at 5:48 p.m. The incident remains under investigation. No further information is available.

Officer Struck By Car On South Jersey Highway, Hit-Run Driver Charged
A 52-year-old woman has been charged after she struck a police officer on a New Jersey highway and then fled the scene, authorities said. Rachel Glatt was heading south on Route 130 when she struck Robbinsville patrolman Connor Boyle, 25, who was assisting a disabled driver near Voelbel Road at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, the officer's department said in a release.
