A Guatemalan national who authorities said crossed the U.S. border illegally was seized by federal agents after he punched a Closter police officer in the face. Emiliano Cotzalo-Santiago, 24, was living in Palisades Park and working on a construction site in Closter when he began walking down the middle of Cedar Lane, obstructing traffic, Police Capt. US Marshals Nab Fugitive Wanted For Stealing PA Pickup, Striking Police Officer In South Jersey
With help from U.S. Marshals and the New York State Police, police in South Jersey have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a police officer in a stolen pickup truck, authorities said. The Ford F-150 pickup was reported stolen out of Bristol, Pennsylvania late last month and a suspect was arrested on Thursday, Evesham Township police said. The suspect taken into custody was identified by Evesham police as Michael Martin. Additional identifying information was not immediately released by police. The Mount Laurel man arrested in July for bias intimidation of his neighbors and other crimes has been charged with leaving a threatening note on one of his victim’s cars earlier this year, and also vandalizing the victim’s vehicle, authorities said. Edward C. Mathews, 45, of Gramercy Way, was charged Tuesday with bias intimidation and harassment, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina. A Newark police officer was hospitalized after being dragged by a pair of men in a stolen SUV, authorities said. A fencing contractor with a criminal past was jailed after he fired an illegally owned gun inside his Westwood home and then fought with the responding officers, police said. No one was struck when Philip Pinto, 60, fired two shots from a Smith & Wesson handgun inside his home around 8 p.m. Monday, Police Capt. Jay Hutchinson said. A drunken Lyndhurst man who was sent home after screaming obscenities at police on a local street before dawn Wednesday turned and came back swinging before being subdued, authorities said.
