Newark Officer Convicted Of Making $50K Working Private Security Job While Out On Sick Leave
A Newark police officer has been convicted of stealing from the department by working a hospital security job while on sick leave, authorities said.
Newark Police Officer Anthony Gibson was convicted on Wednesday, March 8, of official misconduct and theft, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II.
An investigation found that Gibson took sick leave from the Newark Police Division from March 6, 2018, through November 2, 2018. During that period, he received his full pay and benefits from the City of Newark, the prosecutor said.

Three men who assaulted a Newark police officer attempting to arrest a kidnapping suspect are in police custody, authorities announced.
The incident Friday, Aug. 5 around 12:15 a.m. began with the arrest of Alhassane Barry, 24, on the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. He was taken into custody following a citizen's complaint and charged with kidnapping, robbery, and weapons offenses, Frage said.

Authorities are asking the public's help in locating a deaf man from Newark who was reported missing Dec. 7.
Segundo “Cuba” Aponte, 81, was last seen Nov. 26, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said in a release.
He lives on South 18th Street and frequently visits the 100 block of Roseville Avenue, Ambrose said.
Aponte is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds, Ambrose said.
He has brown eyes, gray hair and a dark brown complexion and was last seen wearing an army jacket, gray dress pants and a brown scarf, authorities said.

13 Shooting Suspects Arrested, 29 Firearms Recovered In Newark
Thirteen shooting suspects were arrested and 29 illegal weapons were recovered in the month in Newark, authorities said Friday.
The men were arrested for various incidents since Oct. 1, and the weapons were linked to incidents that occurred in the last two-week span, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

Authorities: Newark Men Who Robbed Internet Dirt Bike Sellers At Gunpoint Busted With Heroin
Three Newark men and a teen who robbed sellers they met online at gunpoint were busted with heroin by police arresting them, authorities said Friday.
Najee Carney, 19, Christian Carnegie, 19, Al-Tamir Mayweathers, 18, and a 15-year old boy agreed to purchase merchandise from someone they met online last month, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
Carney, Carnegie, Mayweathers and the teen robbed the victims at gunpoint, once on Sept. 10 and again on Sept. 29, Ambrose said. In at least one of the incidents, the men robbed the victims of dirt bikes, Ambrose said.
