Toms River Man, 18, Pleads Guilty In Hit-Run Death Of Morris County Utility Worker
A Toms River man on Tuesday pleaded guilty to charges he was facing after a hit-and-run crash that killed a Morris County utility worker in Metuchen. Paddy Flynn, 18, pleaded guilty to causing death by driving without a license and knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death for the March 2 crash that killed Michael Bergamasco, 51, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said in a statement. Lightning Strikes Twice: Fire Again Ravages Burned-Out Middlesex Home Under Renovation
A fire on Saturday severely damaged a Middlesex County house that was gutted by a blaze earlier this year. The fire began in the basement of the Charles Street home in Metuchen shortly before 3:30 p.m., responders said. Firefighters made quick work of the flames in the basement, but the fire spread up the walls, they said. No serious injuries were immediately reported. A couple who owns the home lost their cat and all their belongings in a Jan. 22 fire that began on the front porch and destroyed the house. A New Jersey coronavirus patient whose mother's quest to get him an experimental drug went viral is slowly making a comeback from coronavirus, family and friends say. Crash Closes Route 27 In Metuchen
Route 27 (Middlesex Avenue) at Grove Avenue was to temporarily remain closed Monday for an investigation of a morning crash, Metuchen police said. They said a survey worker was struck by a hit-and-run driver in a white vehicle and advised motorists to avoid the area. Initial unconfirmed reports said a person was struck by around 9:15 a.m. and that a vehicle fled the scene. A 17-year-old Edison boy who was killed when he was struck by a commuter train Tuesday was identified as a local high school junior. Metuchen Man Charged After String Of Burglaries In Point Pleasant
A 39-year-old man was charged Tuesday with criminal mischief and theft after burglaries were reported at a Point Pleasant gas station as well as near Bay Avenue, police said. Steven Lawson of Metuchen was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree theft and third-degree criminal mischief linked to a burglary at the Conoco Gas Station on Route 88 in September 2019, Point Pleasant police said.
