JCP&L Will Trim Trees Along 3,400 Miles Of Power Lines To Reduce Outages
Jersey Central Power & Light is planning to trim trees to protect more than 3,400 miles of power lines across the Garden State, officials said. JCP&L will clear trees as part of a $32.5 million plan to prevent power outages during severe weather, the company said in a news release on Wednesday, Apr. 10. Substation Fire Knocks Out Power To 6,200 Customers In Ocean County
More than 6,200 homes and businesses in Toms River and Lakewood were without power early Monday, Aug. 21 after a substation fire, authorities said. As of 9:45 a.m., 6,259 customers had no electric service, down from a peak of about 10,000 at 3 a.m., according to Jersey Central Power & Light. The substation fire was in Toms River.

Power Outage Hits 27K Customers In Monmouth County
About 27,000 electric customers were without power Monday morning in southern Monmouth County. The exact cause of the widespread outage was not immediately known. More than half of the homes and businesses had their power restored by noon, according to an outage tracker map provided by Jersey Central Power & Light. Almost all of Manasquan, Sea Girt, Spring Lake and Spring Lake Heights had no power as of 11 a.m. About 40% of Wall Township and 25% of Shrewsbury also were suffering outages. More than 10,000 home owners and businesses in Lakewood were reported to be without electricity about 6:30 p.m., authorities said. Business owners and downtown residents of Asbury Park were shaken up by a pair of manhole explosions Thursday morning. No one was injured but at least 400 customers lost electricity after two manholes exploded about 9 a.m., authorities said.
