52 Arrested In 'Elaborate' Cockfighting Ring In South Jersey: Police
More than 50 people were arrested after police broke up a large cockfighting ring in Atlantic County, authorities said. Galloway Township police executed a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of South Bremen Avenue on Saturday, Mar. 9, the department said in a news release. When officers arrived, a large group of people were there and many tried to run away before they were detained. Investigators found an "elaborate cockfighting operation" that included a fighting ring, seating for spectators, and several cockfighting kits. 200+ Birds Rescued In Cockfighting Ring, Pair Arrested In South Jersey: Prosecutor
More than 200 birds were rescued over the weekend and a pair of men were arrested for cockfighting, authorities said. Animals rescued included ducks, turkeys, chickens, roosters, cats, a dog and other birds, they said. Authorities said the fowl were abused as part of a larger criminal enterprise. Dozens of roosters rescued from a Paterson cockfighting ring are being “re-homed” by an acclaimed Morris County shelter. “We’ve been calling them all ‘Pretty Bird,” said Rebecca Burton, the vice-president of operations at St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison, which handles distressed animals. “There are approximately 50 birds not spoken for by adopters or being transferred out to our shelter partners," Burton said. Drug-Raiding Paterson Police Uncover Major Cockfighting Ring: 50 Roosters, Steroids, More
Nearly 50 roosters were being rounded up Wednesday after Paterson police out on a series of citywide pre-dawn drug raids discovered a major cockfighting ring at the end of a dead-end street. Police arrested eight people and seized $2,300 in illegal proceeds, three bags of pot, two THC vape pipes and five Oxycodone pills during a 1 a.m. raid at the Sixth Avenue location, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said.
