A New Jersey state wrestling champion and coach who made national headlines when he revealed that he’s gay was arrested by the FBI Wednesday on child porn charges, federal authorities said. A 49-year-old woman from the Jersey Shore has been indicted in connection with the fatal bludgeoning of her wife last year, authorities said. Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus of Brick Township was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday on murder and weapons charges, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. Jersey Shore Medics Pull Motorist From Burning Vehicle Off Garden State Parkway, Reports Say
A trapped motorist was rescued from a burning vehicle after crashing into a tree along the Garden State Parkway, authorities said. Medics apparently pulled at least one person out of a car after it veered off the northbound lanes of the parkway in Brick Township, initial reports said. The crash occurred mid-afternoon near mile-marker 94 Tuesday. The car fire was knocked down by local firefighters within 15 minutes, reports said. One person died and two others were injured in a Brick Township crash Sunday morning, authorities said. Nancy Penrod, 78, was not breathing when police responded to the scene on Lane Mills Road between Greenwood Loop Road and Kirk Lane where a car and minivan had crashed around 9:45 a.m., township police said. Penrod was hospitalized and later pronounced dead, police said. Jersey Shore Man Gets 2 Years Probation For Driving Over 5 Geese
A 22-year-old man from Ocean County, who admitted intentionally driving over five geese, was sentenced to probation for animal cruelty, authorities said. In addition to 10 days of community service, Quintin Alec-Manning of Brick Township was sentenced to two years probation for the crime, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. The prosecutor's office had sought a 90-day jail sentence, he said. Alec-Manning was sentenced on Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Jersey Shore Police Respond To Shots Fired
Police in Ocean County were called on a report of multiple shots fired late Wednesday, authorities said. Brick Township police officers found blood evidence and bullet casings on Creek Road at about 11:30 p.m. An initial report said that a 9-1-1 caller had heard eight to 10 shots fired, but the suspect had fled the scene.
