Boater, 53, Dies After Circling Vessel Runs Aground On Raritan Bay, Police Say
A 53-year-old man died after his boat ran aground on the Raritan Bay Monday, June 3, authorities said.
Kenneth Halvorsen Jr., of Toms River, was found on the vessel that had been moving in a circular pattern in the bay in Sayreville around 1:55 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.
The boat ran aground prior to troopers' arrival, Lebron said. Halvorsen was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Halvorsen worked at Pells Bait and Tackle, a fishing shop in Brick, according to social media and those who knew him.

Distressed Kayaker Rescued By Contractors Performing Bridge Work In Ocean County
Two bridge workers are credited with the swift rescue of a kayaker in distress.
The contractors, Randolph Fuson and Charles Baldwin of IEW, were performing maintenance on Tunney Bridge when they noticed an overturned kayak and looked to see if anyone was near, Toms River police said.
They heard someone yelling for help and provided a life vest and life ring to the kayaker, holding the rope to keep him in sight until additional help arrived.
On Friday, Feb. 24, at 3:16 p.m., police, fire, and EMS units were dispatched to assist the "boater in distress."

PA Lifeguard, 16, Dies After Jersey Shore Boating Accident
A 16-year-old lifeguard from Pennsylvania died after a boating accident on the Jersey Shore.
Norman V. Inferrera III, of Phoenixville, PA, was rowing a lifeguard boat in the ocean when the vessel was broadsided by a wave and flipped over on the Reading Avenue Beach in Cape May Aug. 19, police said.
Norman was knocked unconscious and other lifeguards responded immediately to his aid, police said.
The teen was flown to the hospital, where he died on Friday night, a relative told Daily Voice.
